one of those
that keeps old letters,
old tokens,
old notebooks.
old pictures,
to keep me reminded
of the past.
but...
i just realized
keeping some of them
is holding me back
to things that are already
behind me.
things that I myself
do not wish to have back.
thus keeping them
makes it hard for me
to move forward
with open heart
and mind.
and then
i decided it is the right time,
(oh believe me
it is so difficult)
(oh believe me
it is so difficult)
to let go of some of them
and just take with me
the best ones and
the lessons learned
from the unpleasant ones.
ahhh...
such a great feeling.
chest is so light...

ReplyDeleteWhat lies ahead for us is much more fulfilling, dear JJ. I am looking forward.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you ~ The future is more exciting than the past ~ The best way to travel is light ~
ReplyDeleteNow that's a perspective that I like. Glad you are able to let go! Have a good day, JJ.
ReplyDeleteLetting go of the past and moving with a free heart to the future. Nice theme!
ReplyDeleteah yes! I know exactly that feeling-we had to get rid of a lot of "stuff" when we moved- so it was hard but freeing to have less-

I think it's best to let go of the pain, relish the pleasure and move forward.
ReplyDeleteThere are definitely things that we have to let go of in order to truly appreciate that which we have been given…very nice sir…
ReplyDeleteyou always speak truth

This is SUCH an important message.Great poem thanks for causing me to think.
Thanks for this powerful image of letting go, JRod !
ReplyDeleteNot many have the resolve and the courage to do like you do, ParengJJ! It's bothersome to decide what to keep as related to space and cleanliness expected. Nice verse!

This is all so true. we hold onto the past because it's what we know and sometimes even the pain become so familiar to us it's easier to keep tight hold of it than to let go. But, it's only in the letting go that we do move forward with our lives again.
ReplyDeleteVery nice read, thank you :)
Sometimes it's best to let go and move on...thoughtful write...
ReplyDeleteYou are reminding me of my own life! Nicely written, and totally wise!
ReplyDeleteiam also a pack rat i keep everything that reminds me of something or someone i already move on from those things and persons but its just fun to looks back old memories tht used to be happy

I save all the movie ticket stubs, so yeah, I'm that kind of guy. Nostalgia is a dear friend of mine, but it's the type of friend that will always come back, no matter how many times you decide to part ways. Your voice in this so clear, great thoughts put on paper.
